11 point taken by Danny
Lowery of Byram, MS on October 12, 2000, in Hinds Country behind his house
with a Martin Courgar 2 bow. The deer weighed 250 pounds and green
scored 162 5/8 by the Mean Mallard. "Instead of going to my deer camp in Bolton, I decided to hunt behind my house that morning for just a couple of hours so I could start painting my house. (Which I had been putting off for a couple of years because it was too hot, too cold, the fish were biting, the deer were rutting, etc..........). I only have 7 1/2 acres, but I back up to several hundred acres of overgrown fields. On the fencerow between us I have some oaks that were dropping acorns and a persimmon tree with a few persimmons on the ground. At 7:25 I saw 3 bucks coming toward me. The 11 pt. was in the lead, but I didn't realize how big he was because his horns were very dark, but the other deer's horns were shining white. I only had a few seconds to make up my mind which was the biggest. When I got a good look at the other 2, I saw they had long beams but were probably only 6 pts. So, I took another quick look at the first one and knew he was the one I wanted. Until I got to him, I still didn't realize how big he was. I'm glad I didn't know or I would have probably missed! I took him with a Martin Cougar 2 bow I have been shooting for about 15 years or longer at 20 yards." |
