The following is story about this hunt as told by Shane Easterling: "A group of us got together the day after Thanksgiving to run dogs. We went to a place in Wesson where one of the guys had some private land.
While walking to our stands, Landon Smith and I decided to go and take a look at the field where Jason Berch was located so we would not shoot in his direction. While all three of us were standing there and talking, this 8pt (evidently spooked out by the drivers) busted out into the field. Landon shot first and then I shot immediatly after. The deer then went down in the back and wheeled to get out of the field. During which the three of us shot 6 more times. When we found the buck, he only had one bullet hole in his left hind-quarter which angled up into his chest cavity and did not exit. After the three of us talked it over, we decided since we all shot different guns (I shoot a 30-06, Landon shoots a 7mm, Jason shoots a 300mag) we would dig the bullet out and have it checked
to see what cal. it was. We narrowed it down to Landon and I because we shot first and the deer was already down in the back when Jason shot. After we had the bullet miked to tell the diameter of the rear of the bullet we determined that it was a 30-06 bullet and that it was mine. WE CALL IT....THE FORENSIC BUCK."
