Lynn Guiffreda, from the Buffalo Community, woke from a nap at 4
pm on Christmas Day, 2003, to find everyone gone hunting on Murray
Hunting Club. One the way to her stand she realized she had no light,
no cell phone, and about a 3/4 mile walk out at dark. After
getting in the stand around 4:30, and making 2 series of call with her
Primos grunter, she heard thrashing noises just inside the treeline in
front of her at approximately 5 pm. She thought it sounded like
a buck hooking bushes, but dismissed it as wishful thinking!
Approximately 5 minutes later the buck appeared in the opening.
She shot at him with her Winchester 280 and he ran towards her and
stopped behind several small trees. She watched thru her scope
as he looked around and hooked an overhanging limb. Then, when
he stepped from behind the trees, she placed a perfect shot on
him. He ran about 20 feet and fell.
After what seemed like hours she managed to make her way to the
buck. She hit her knees when she saw him! She started
counting points.....and that still remains an issue! His rack
has great mass. He has a 14 inch spread, a main frame of 12
points, but can hang a ring on several others. He weighed 210
pounds. She built a fire with a lighter she found in her pocket
and waited for her husband, R. J., son Matthew, and nephews Adam and
Brandon to show up.
Taxidermist, Allen Morgan, of Brookhaven says he expects the
buck to be 4 1/2 years old and score high 130's or low 140'2
B&C. After lots of debate on the matter of how to count
points, Lynn says, "It doesn't matter to me if you call him a 12
or 18 point, he's an awesome buck and my dream come true. I was
truly blessed by God on Christmas Evening!
