This monster buck was taken on a Sunday
afternoon on December 18, 2005, about 4:30 pm in
Pontotoc, MS, by Stephen McBrayer on his grandfather's property.
The buck is
a massive non-typical with 22 points, 19 of which are scoreable, 20"
inside spread,
double drop tines, and 6" bases. Green Score 227 1/8".
Field dressed 190 lb. Stephen told The Bragging Post, "He is is
a once in a lifetime buck. We nicknamed him 'Double XL'."
McBrayer's buck is one of the biggest deer killed in
Mississippi and will be one of the top deer taken in the country this year.
The score will break the record for the top-scoring deer in Pontotoc County.
Previous record according to MDWF&P, Heath Westmoreland had the record on a
buck that scored 202 4/8 in 2001 (click

Tony Fulton has the state record, a 1994 deer that scored 295 6/8 killed in
Winston County (Fulton's Buck can be viewed by clicking
here.)
McBrayer was definitely at the right place at the right
time. He was riding in a truck with his 8 year old son on family land,
just passing time and checking things out. At 4:30 p.m., Stephen got
out of his truck to look at a field when he saw the big buck more than 200
yards away. Using a .243 caliber rifle, McBrayer sighted in the deer
and squeezed the trigger. The buck did not run far. He has his
son only had to track the deer 30 or 40 yards.
Congratulations Stephen!!!
