Brian Andrus killed this monster buck on
November 28, 2011, near Moorehead, MS. "Rough green" score gross 190
3/8,
net 177, mainframe 10 point with bases measuring 7 1/2" and 7 1/4".
Antlers alone weigh 7 1/2 lb.
Brian missed a chance to bag this buck last year at 10 to 15 yards, but was
hunting with a 45-70 he was unfamiliar with and when the buck stepped out,
Brian clicked the hammer back alarming the buck which caused him to bolt &
run. He knows this is the same buck as he has had pictures of the deer
both years and the trophy has a noticeable slit in the left ear. Brian
says he was miserable for about a week after that. Little did he know
that he would get a 2nd chance and the buck would be even larger than ever!
This lucky day of 2011 the skilled hunter was hunting in a stand of hardwood
trees on the frame of a seat in a tripod overlooking a logging road.
He had taken with him a replacement seat to replace the dilapidated seat in
the tripod, but didn't have much time to hunt and didn't want to make noise,
so he just sat on the empty seat frame.
The buck was shot close to 5pm as Brian had just looked at the time on his
phone and put it back in his pocket when the buck stepped into view coming
straight at him. Brian had been watching a 4 point cross the logging road a
couple of times since about 4:40. The 4 point came back across the
logging road again and went in to the woods when Brian notice movement
behind the deer. That's when the trophy stepped out in to view. He
shot the 275 lb. buck at about 60 yd in the neck coming straight at him.
