The Reverend David Fortenberry,
owner of Crossland Game Calls recently went to Kansas on a Bow Hunting
Trip with his son Brandon Fortenberry and Crossland Team Member Gene
Hoyt. David states that after scouting with Brandon and Gene for a
couple of days, the three decided to strategically place his stand in a
group of Cottonwood Trees that deer frequently passed going from bed to
feed. On the first day he hunted, David said he was seeing plenty of
deer, and some were shooters, but none came close enough for a shot. At
around 8:30 AM David looked behind his stand location to see a shooter
buck quartering away from his position. David quickly reached into his
pocket and pulled out “ The Tank “, an estrus bleat call that his
company Crossland sells, after flipping the call a few times the buck
moved in his direction and started walking down a grassy roadbed, giving
David an 18 yard quartering away shot. David doesn’t get to do a lot of
bow hunting because of his commitment to his pastoral duties, but that
was not a problem on this day, as his arrow found it’s mark perfectly
and the deer only ran 50 yards before expiring. The result of David’s
hunt on this day was a 140 class Halloween Buck.
